Oedipus has
already put out his own eyes. The sons of this once great king have grown
now and battle each other for territory and power. The prophets see doom.
Welcome to the bloody realm of Synapse’s latest production, THE
PHOENICIAN WOMEN.
The company puts
a modern edge on Euripides’ tragedy with a multi-media presentation that is
both edgy and daring, but respectful of the classical source material.
Employing ancient standards, like the omnipresent Chorus, here lending
vocals and movement, and blending them with modern dress and visual
technology, director David Travis has blended the disparate eras almost
seamlessly. The result is articulate and viable drama that the audience can
understand and relate to.
Synapse
Productions has always presented plays that are classic with an edge. THE
PHOENICIAN WOMEN is no exception. Enjoy.
