Set in a time-warped New York, and filled with magical
and dark elements borrowed from fairy tales, paired with an underlying aura
of vaudevillian sensibilities, SATURN’S WAKE is a showcase for the
ample talents of performers Deke Weaver and Michael Farkas. Musical and
funny, sometimes a bit sinister, and always creative, this work stands out
as supremely unique.
We meet orphans named Dana and Johnny, along with their
disabled dog, Mr. Greenjeans (fashioned out of balloons), a mysterious
character called Kenny, and the virtual characters (portrayed via screen
projections) of a pet rat, boxing cockroaches, malicious skatekids, et
cetera. SATURN’S WAKE is a hodgepodge of elements, styles and
players, but it all comes together, somehow.
This is one of those shows that you will probably either
love or hate. I liked it. The two performers are great. Enjoy SATURN’S
WAKE. I did!
