Video Interviews by FERNANDO MANECA
Artist Fernando Maneca has designed an evening of two
multi-media movement-based performance pieces that, while standing on their
own as separate works, combine to provide a more complete program.
The first piece, Today I Am Feeling A Little Bit Less
Cynical, performed by the ensemble, and accompanied by video footage, is
a quick-paced dissection of the modern day rush hour, and the denizens
thereof. In the second piece, a string of solos called JUST LIKE A MAN,
Mr. Maneca posits the nature of manhood through a series of movement stories
interspersed with videotaped interviews on the subject.
In this two act multi-media event, watch as Maneca
contemplates the daily commute, does battle with a rake, and reveals the
more intimate details of his life as a sexual being. Stereotypes are
portrayed and explored. The tiniest details of day-to-day life are brought
out into fluid motion as they become part of the dance. The mundane is the
crucial matter here, and Maneca seems a budding master at transforming the
commonplace into thought-provoking art.
For dance and then some, consider Fernando Maneca’s
