Jeffrey D. has prepared for an all-fallen-star
Christmas special of enormous proportions. As the event is about to begin,
the ghost of Bob Marley appears to alert Jeffrey D. to the impending visits
of three guests. Heeding Marley’s advice, Mr. D. abandons the flashy format
in favor of playing all of the tracks from his "Christmas With
The Flamingos" album.
And so, a nine-performance
stint is born! (12/19 – 12/22 only)
Alas, the brief run of
Christmas With The Flamingos
has already passed, but that does not mean
that you have to miss out on the musical celebration. No, no. The star and
writer of this particular holiday spectacular, Jeffrey D., can be heard as a
participant/producer on the Halloween CD, Rotten to the Core
(featuring ELJ friends Mz. Pakman,
and available at Rancho
Culero), and at his own site,
Sweetly Mysterious.
As for those flamingos… Well, do not confuse this show
with another of my favorites, the John Waters film, PINK FLAMINGOS. No, Mr.
Jeffrey D. is decidedly tamer than that, but also quite entertaining. He
sings. He laments. He lusts. He mentions pussy. He sings some more and lusts
and entertains visitors, and is, altogether, Jeffrey D.
Devin T. Quin joins him, in various guises, including
Joseph (for a little number called "The Father of the Son of God") and a
kooky little Christmas squirrel called Kaburami. We also meet Jason Madison,
as a sort of inexplicable freakshow addition in the form of an elf bumped
from the show, and Erin Logemann as the oft-sung-of Anne-Marie. Even your
stalwart reviewer was summoned onstage to represent this same Anne-Marie for
a romantic number entitled "Christmas in Love."
So yes, I had fun, and I got to listen to some peppy
holiday tunes. If you did not get to witness the stage show of
Christmas With The Flamingos,
