Just in time for Halloween, The Blood Brothers and Nosedive Productions are presenting AN EVENING OF GRAND GUIGNOL HORROR, an hour plus assortment of six pieces of theater, including vignettes and one-acts, all celebrating the Grand Guignol genre. Full of mirth and murder, this packed evening is a tasty treat, a guilty pleasure full of tricks and treats.
Aside from drooling blood, the HORROR includes severed limbs, acid-burned skin, vicious blindings, mad hauntings and one truly raunchy decapitation. The action comes fast, and though not necessarily flawlessly executed, presented with a certain style that satisfies. The sets, costumes, lighting, music and makeup all add to the mood and heighten the desired effect.
For a show called AN EVENING OF GRAND GUIGNOL HORROR, I laughed a lot. Part of the point, and making the experience different from what I was expecting, but certainly enjoyable. Definitely not for everyone, and not recommended for children, however.
